we just released darktable 1.1.2, a point release (so nothing too fancy) with a couple of bugfixes and better camera support. Additionally it comes with an updated usermanual which is available here:

The various packages for your favourite distro are already on their way. The Ubuntu PPA should be updated already for example, and the opensuse package is available from https://software.opensuse.org/package/darktable and will be included in the upcoming opensuse 12.3 thanks to Togan Muftuoglu.

- Fix export resolution rounding issue (as in previous version it could be off-by-one)
- Correctly set output dimension in exif instead of passing the raw resolution verbatim
- Local average green eq. was fixed (it now works on high ISO images as well, and should no longer produce hot pixels)

First just wanted to say thanks to the entire team for your work with Darktable, it is a great piece of software.
I am new to Darktable (and photography in general) and was wondering if you might be planning a selection tool (or have I just not found it ?) and layer support. Corel's Aftershot Pro has this feature, and I thought it is a really useful tool for allowing the user to edit just certain area's of the photo rather than the whole thing, for example selecting the sky area that might be dull, and just bringing this to life without having a knock on effect to other zones. It would be an exciting feature to have. I can appreciate it's not such an easy thing to implement (am learning Python coding at the moment, C being a lot more low level and complex), fingers crossed :)

I shot in RAW and JPEG with Pantax K-30. Afterwards, I opened DNG and JPEG files in darktable and copied the history stack from the JPEG file to the DNG file. However, the DNG file still did not looked the same like JPEG. Would it be possible to get this feature, because it would help newbie to understand quicker how to work with RAW files.

It would be nice to double click on one of the entry in darkroom's history and jump straight to settings of the entry. Would it possible to switch off or to delete an entry in darkroom's history by additional icons next to the entry?

When I shot in burst mode I switched off Raw, because with only jpeg I have no worry about that buffer get to full and I miss the action. However, I have to modify the pictures in GIMP like whitening teeth, remove pimple etc. I thought to convert the JPEGs to Tiff in the following way:
convert IMGP0084.JPG IMGP0084.tif
convert IMGP0084.JPG exif:IMGP0084.exif
mogrify -set profile exif:IMGP0084.exif IMGP0084.tif
However, in Tiff I lose most of the Exif entries like e.g GPS information. Are any plans to support exif files? Or how other user working around that problem to modify pictures?

frob is null so flickr cannot grant access.
I could export to facebook and picasa (google+) with no problem at all.
Is there anything I could do to solve it or to help solving?
It's far less work than masks and immensely powerful. Try it! :-)
a jpeg is a very different animal than a raw image and copying a raw's history stack to it will always look different.
If this were not the case, then there would be no advantage in taking raw images, would there? :-)
point 2 is actually two points:
creating a shortcut to an items's settings seems superfluous to me, you will quickly know where to go for each module in darkroom
The option of removing individual items I would very much like. This has been requested before. please see the issue tracker at http://darktable.org/redmine
